David Leonardi

Thought to be the lead investigator on Luigi Mangione’s case.

David M. Leonard has been Lieutenant Commander Detective at 116th Precinct Detective Squad since December 2024.

He has also served at Detective Bureau Manhattan South Homicide Squad, 113th Precinct Detective Squad, 113th Precinct, Gang Squad Queens, 79th Precinct

His service started July 2002. He has since accumulated a long list of complaints from citizens, including abuse of authority. In 2014, the NYPD concluded he was guilty of an illegal strip search; his punishment was to forfeit 18 days of vacation.

Leonardi made $238,000 last year.

He is a white male, 45 years of age.
